I'm Kumquat.
I like to write stories and draw the scenes and characters I write. The genres that my stories tend to fall into are fantasy, sci-fi, and supernatural. My short stories usually revolve around an individual while my longer stories are built on worlds with the story crafted within. I like to use the fairytales that I grew up with in my stories—european tales and filipino epics. I read the simplified versions as a kid, so these days I like to compare my memories to the full versions. I find a lot of inspiration in the mythical creatures of the Philippines as well as its many precolonial civilizations.
Here are a few other interests to get to know me:
Land of the Lustrous
Phos and Bortz are my favorite, followed by Goshenite and Yellow Diamond. I love Phos's transformation throughout the series, it's like watching an artist go mad through their own work. I just wished there were more scenes between them and Cinnabar: I still like their ending, but I wish I got to see them interact more. I urge you to check out the anime's OST if you're in the mood for beautiful cinematic music with interesting rhythms.
The Legend of Zelda series
If I could be isekai'd into any world, I hope it would be one of the Zelda games. Recently, my memory has been terrible, and even if I had my encyclopedic knowledge back, I definitely wouldn't be able to help Link beat whichever Great Evil he faces. That said, I think I could still work something out. All those worlds are so colorful, so beautiful. The casual mysteries, the simple living, the great outdoors and close-knit villages: it's irresistable.
Recently Read: Moby Dick
It was much more fun than I expected. What I took from it the most, especially at the start, was how bold the prose felt. It's been a while since I read an older book, after all.
Current dream: I want to be a big and healthy tree.
Basic traits
I am an adult. I am Filipino-American. I don't have any feelings towards sexual orientation or gender identity concerning myself personally. You may refer to me using any pronouns.
I was raised Catholic-Christian, but I do not practice nor actively believe in that or any religion. However, that upbringing occassionally shows through my writing, whether I like it or not.
I do not use generative AI for my work, for this site, or for anything. Unless it was a part of a tool that existed before the 2010s, I do not use it and I do not appreciate the forced integration of AI everywhere.
